CONEXPO Report and Improving Customer Service

I am writing this introduction, waiting for a flight home after attending theCONEXPO exhibition in Las Vegas. This is the largest construction equipment show in North America and follows on the regular three-year cycle in the year following bauma in Munich. One of the attractions of this show is to see some sunshine in March and Las Vegas duly delivered some of that!

It is sometimes strange how statistics and perceptions differ. Walking the show and chatting with exhibitors, most were saying the show was going well with lots of good quality visitors and yet I was surprised to see that the total number of visitors was fewer than 120,000 which is well down, some 16%, on the 143,000 that came along three years ago. Contrast that with bauma 2010 which was hit by the ash cloud flight shutdown, visitors were 420,000 compared with 500,000 for the prior show, a 17% reduction. Yet I came away from bauma with a feeling that exhibitors were disappointed with attendance. One common thread at both exhibitions, however, is a growing confidence in the construction equipment market. This is wonderful news but I do hope this does not turn out to be a bubble and we have a major correction on the way. After what happened in 2009, it is right to feel nervous!

A common flavour of these newsletters has been the on-going need for increased security and the TriMark combinations of KeyOne Plus,SecureOne and eASK offer customised, flexible, cost-effective options to increase security. In the UK, this can be part of the package to getThatcham 3Star certification. Please do not hesitate to contact mekeithdolbear@trimarkeu.com to see if we can offer anything in this area.

Finally, as part of our moves to improve customer service and increase efficiencies we consolidated the despatch of all TriMark and West Alloy products from our site in Sutton, Surrey. We have also changed so that all transactions are in the name of TriMark Europe Ltd but we continue to sell the full West Alloy range and will continue to promote the West Alloy brand. I know this meant some customers had to change things and so I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved for making the change go well.

I hope you enjoy this newsletter and please as ever, feel free to let us know any features you would like included in the future.

TriMark Displays New Products at CONEXPO

March was a busy month for TriMark as we participated in several industry shows focused on key market segments.

Held every three years in Las Vegas CONEXPO was the international gathering place from March 22 – 26, 2011 for the construction industry. The exposition showcased the latest equipment, products, services and technologies and TriMark featured several new products and platforms at the 2011 show.

International registrations accounted for a record 24 percent of the total, representing more than 150 countries. CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011 and IFPE 2011 were among a select group invited to participate in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program, which facilitates the participation of international visitors. The shows hosted 42 official international customer delegations from 37 countries, organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce as well as in-country associations and related groups.

The event was massive in its scale and scope.

  • Over 2,400 exhibitors and just shy of 120,000 visitors.
  • A comprehensive education program during the five-day exposition with sessions that emphasized industry issues and trends, management and applied technology
  • Product concentration areas which made it relatively easy for visitors to locate specific products, services and exhibitors of interest to them including hundreds of new products and technologies

One particular area of interest was the products featuring the first stage (interim) solutions to the new Tier 4 engine emission regulations.

So naturally this meant many of the new machines on display were those that manufacturers have had to update to accommodate Tier 4 Interim engines. TriMark is at the forefront in working with OEMs on Tier 4 solutions and we visited with many manufacturers who had questions on this complex regulatory requirement.

Off Highway Challenges – Latching Solutions for Tier 4 Enclosures

Marking the introduction of Tier 4 emissions standards for off-road engines in 2011, design engineers are facing yet another challenge in a never ending line of hurdles - the packaging of diesel exhaust after-treatment systems and the integration of those packages into off-highway equipment.

More than just emissions standards, Tier 4 translates into complete machine redesign, resulting in lengthened frames, movement of counterweights, revised driveline components, managing airflow and noise emissions, and forcing revisions to hood and access panels. The timeline and budget for Tier 4 integration is pushing the limits which leaves engineers searching for every opportunity to provide packaging solutions while trying to hold the line or reduce costs.

Some of the challenges faced by our OEM partners involve applications where multiple latches are needed to secure an access panel or a slam latch will not work because of heavy door seals. Because TriMark's latching and fastening solutions are designed to ensure rugged durability in off-highway's demanding conditions, many times those solutions are already at hand. Here are just several examples of TriMark latches that are available to address specific challenges:

As a long-time partner with many of the off-road OEM's who are working to address these challenges, TriMark has been providing application assistance, easing the burden on OEM engineer's time searching for the right access solutions. We continue to demonstrate that we have the experience and product selection for heavy applications to solve enclosure latching and locking requirements, within budget and schedule.

Rotary Latches – Building TriMark's Reputation One Latch at a Time

How many times have you heard the term "market leader" and really wondered if it was all just hype to get you to pay attention to the product being promoted only to find out that the truth is really in the details and the only leadership being exercised was in trying to get you to consider what just may be an average product? If your answer is "yes" don't feel alone as we've all been lead down that path at some point.

When we tell you that TriMark is the "market leader" in Rotary Latches you won't need to dig too deeply before you realize that this is more than just hollow hype. We like to say that TriMark Rotary Latches are Often Copied but Never Equaled. TriMark's 30-year history and experience in designing and building the 20 million latches certainly qualifies TriMark as the "market leader".

TriMark offers the widest range of rotary latches and leads the industry in reliability and durability. Convenience and Security are Hallmarks of KeyOne Plus

TriMark offers a single-key locking solution for the operation of multiple locking products on a vehicle.

Features/Benefits:

  • The "One Key - One Vehicle" program - provides the OEM the opportunity to line sequence the key code requirements without having to order key cylinders or hardware kits keyed alike in advance of build requirements. System allows the use of the same lock cylinder for multiple TriMark product's, keeping the lock part numbers to a minimum
  • Modular KeyOne Plus locking solution can be extended to include ignition locks, fuel caps and other points of access that would benefit from sharing lock cylinders and key code coordination. Main product (handles) can be purchased in bulk at larger quantity or use fewer part numbers by keying at the customer end
  • Automotive-style lock with a larger body diameter for enhanced security features a high quality shutter system and perimeter waterproof seal that is water resistant - double seals reduces the infiltration of dirt and water into the lock
  • Available in a wide variety of codes which allows the customer flexibility in keying a unit alike. To protect overall security, KeyOne Plus can be keyed differently for each individual unit.
  • Provides the ability to service, replace or upgrade the lock cylinder at any time offering OEM's, dealers, service technician's and end users the option to adjust the level of security and convenience or replace in the event of lost keys or lock cylinder failure - no disassembly of the product or door is required

Because the handles/latches, locks and keys are supplied separately, you can order exactly what you want and need, with corresponding volumes that suit your specific requirements, promoting product value through increased efficiency, economies of scale, reduction of inventory and purchased part numbers. Click here for more information.
