Convenience and Security are Hallmarks of KeyOneTM Plus

Gone are the days when convenience and security are mutually exclusive terms when describing key code requirements and single key access control in the Specialty Vehicle industries. TriMark offers a single-key locking solution for the operation of multiple locking products on an individual unit. Based on the proven KeyOneTM design plus 10 years of OEM experience, the patented KeyOneTM Plus approach features a modular lock cylinder design that allows for a single key system that can be easily installed as the last step by the final stage OE manufacturer. With the KeyOneTM Plus locking solution, Vehicle OEM's are getting an automotive-style lock with a larger body diameter for enhanced security, a high quality shutter system and perimeter waterproof seal - reducing the infiltration of dirt and water.

Available on most TriMark entrance door handles and baggage/compartment locks, the lock cylinder and keys are available in a wide variety of codes which allows the customer flexibility in keying a unit alike. And to protect overall security, KeyOneTM Plus is keyed differently for each individual unit. The keys are available in reversible profiles which increases ease of operation, customer convenience and satisfaction.

The KeyOneTM Plus system also allows certain products or locks, such as a deadbolt lock, to be keyed differently for restricted access purposes. Master keyed versions are also available, providing dealers, fleet owners, and service technician's controlled access for convenience and accessibility. Additional options include the ability to custom match existing customer codes or select a new key code that would be unique to a specific industry or application.

The KeyOneTM Plus system also solves the challenge for OEMs, who wrestle with logistics and line sequencing for the keyed random key codes across various models and options. The "One Key – One Vehicle" program is supported with KeyOneTM Plus because it provides the OEM the opportunity to line sequence the key code requirements without having to order key cylinders or hardware kits keyed alike in advance of build requirements. The use of the modular KeyOneTM Plus locking solution can be extended to include ignition locks, fuel caps and other points of access that would benefit from sharing lock cylinders and key code coordination.

Spot Steel Prices Up 70-80% in Past Year

The harsh reality of today's global economy for anyone manufacturing a product using raw materials is that they will have to compete for those materials with the rest of the world. For the past year, nearly every steelmaker world-wide has raised prices for spot steel, resulting in an average of a 70-80% increase. Hot-rolled steel, which is a common raw material, is currently hovering around $1,000 per ton on the spot market. About a year ago, hot-rolled steel was selling in the range of $550 to $600 per ton.

Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that a weak U.S. dollar has resulted in U.S. steelmakers shipping more material overseas, where it commands higher prices. The unintended consequence from this practice is that it increases the price of steel imported to the U.S. to be used as raw materials for domestic steel mills. And, when you factor in the reality that steel consumption in China is three times higher than it is in the U.S., you have a situation where demand is driving price increases.

These cost increases, which come amid rising prices for many other raw materials such as aluminum and copper, along with truckload freight rates for product delivery is having a major impact on TriMark's product costs. Unfortunately, economic forecasts predict this trend to continue.

While TriMark cannot avoid passing along some level of price increase due to the sharp increase in raw material costs, we are striving to mitigate those increases through combining the principles of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing. By taking this approach we are using our focus on continuous improvement to eliminate unnecessary processes and procedures which do not add value to the final products being delivered to our customers.

Be assured that TriMark strives to maintain a leadership role in the markets we serve and plan to supply the industry with cost effective quality products now and into the future.
