Work Truck Show Report
The
46th Annual NTEA Convention (aka The Work Truck Show) in St. Louis,
MO this March exceeded expectations with more than 8,000 industry
professionals in attendance. While this could be considered an
impressive achievement in such a challenging economy, it in fact
represents the third highest show attendance ever for the event. The
Main Hall and Edward Jones Dome was brimming with an exciting array
of new vocational trucks, components and equipment.
America's
Center was sold out to the 525 exhibitors, including a booth
showcasing our full complement of TriMark products available
to the truck equipment industry. TriMark's Dave Root stated,
"We had great booth traffic because we continue to attract
prospective customers who are seeking high value products and access
solutions from a company they know will treat them as a true
partner."
Each year, the NTEA strives to provide
participants with the highest-quality education and training during
the annual Convention. More than 40 educational sessions were
offered at this year's show, covering a broad-range of relevant and
timely topics. |

Global Capabilities and Increasingly Positive
Economics |
|
Spring has sprung here in Iowa, and it is
really nice to see the grass beginning to green and the buds on the
trees signaling that summer will be here in no time!
Allow
me to cover a couple of items with you in this issue of the
newsletter. First, I was reminded several weeks ago that
TriMark operates in an increasingly global marketplace. We
were doing a review of TriMark's particpation in the UMA
Motorcoach Expo held in February. Because this was our first time as
an exhibitor at the Expo, it was somewhat of a learning experience
for us. One thing we learned is that the show draws a very strong
international audience. For example, we had several booth visitors
from the UK and Europe who were inquiring if we could provide
products to them. With TriMark's strong brand presence in the
UK and Europe with both TriMark Europe and West Alloy, we
were able to demonstrate that we could service their businesses
regardless of where they were located. You may have also noticed
that in 2010 we are participating in a full complement of trade
shows including several international shows - one of which is bauma
Munich where we are currently exhibiting.
Second, I want to
again share with you our commitment to keeping pace with our
customers as we see the level of business activity continue to
increase. One area where we continue to struggle is getting our
supply chain back in "sync" with demand. It is so important that
everyone in the supply chain – customers and TriMark
component suppliers – work together on a proactive basis to meet
current and future market demands. As we recently stated, we've had
to increase our production lead times which does not allow us to
deliver within TriMark's normal timeframe. So, how can you
help us help you? One way is to provide us with advanced forecast
information, which will allow us to minimize future product
shortages. Your continued support as a valued customer will help us
work through the current shortages. While we all suffer frustration
when we have to re-adjust schedules, I can tell you that having to
deal with this problem in an economy that is coming back to life is
certainly better than the alternative. Patti Knowlton General

TriMark's Global Capabilities Mean
More Flexibility for Customers |
|
TriMark has quickly
gained a global reputation for being able to provide innovation
access solutions to a variety of demanding customers, large and
small. This capability has set TriMark apart from those who
are just "hardware" providers and placed TriMark in a class
of its own. There are several reasons why TriMark has been
able to accomplish this recognition.
First, TriMark
has a dedicated team of engineers capable of rapidly responding to
your needs with hardware knowledge and expertise ultimately
providing "turn- key" solutions.
Our capabilities include:
- Engineering services utilizing 3D CAD
- Finite element analysis
- Mechanism/motion studies
- Various types of prototyping
- Product validation and testing
Our manufacturing
capabilities include:
- Rapid production laser and form cells
- CNC lathe/machining centers
- High volume stamping/metal forming presses
- Zinc die-casting, plastic injection molding
- Automated RoHS plating line
- Cellular assembly and in-house quality and inspection services
TriMark offers the right combination of products
and services providing maximum flexibility to meet your tight lead
times for prototypes and production orders without expensive tooling
and long lead times. If you need a solution to safely, simply, and
reliably open a personnel or compartment door on your vehicle, you
need to improve your user interface for making it easier for the
operator, or you are simply looking for rugged latches, handles,
hinges and other hardware the TriMark team can put our expert
engineering, prototyping and quick-turn manufacturing resources and
capabilities to work for customers.
Second, TriMark
has strategic global locations and capabilities which allow for a
greater level teamwork in the area of product development. Here is
an example of how this works to a TriMark customer's
advantage. Earthmoving hydraulic excavators are very popular in
China, and the market for this equipment is growing quickly with
many OEM's developing their own brand for market. When
TriMark was first established in China, it was fast revealed
that a cab door handle suited especially for hydraulic excavator
equipment was critical to long term success. Engineering teams in
the U.S. and Europe were too busy to take on another development
project and time was of the essence.
Local engineering
talent at TriMark China was assigned to design the product
using a combination of features from other proven TriMark
global products along with some innovative ideas to reduce part
count and manufacturing cost. The engineering team was tasked to
develop a product that would fit in current applications without
modification. Using Pro/ENGINEER™ and Windchill™ the TriMark
China engineering team worked with the engineers in the U.S. to
review designs, exchange inputs and advice, and review features that
would make the 030-2300 Excavator Paddle Handle a World Class
product. Learning how to work within Windchill™ and a totally new
work culture proved to be an exciting byproduct of the collaborative
engineering process.
The 030-2300 is the result of the joint
TriMark teamwork in both engineering design and learning the
challenges and rewards of working on a global team that is spread
around the world. This is just one of many new projects that will
utilize simultaneous engineering and global collaboration to allow
TriMark to design faster, while maximizing innovation and
quality and to ultimately create exceptional products for the
benefit of its global customers.
Our Global Manufacturing
and Engineering Services offer you expertise, ideas, and resources
for your product development projects saving your company time and
money. Rest assured TriMark is committed to investing in the
people, processes and products that keep our customers coming back
for solutions to their door system needs. These services include:

quality product at competitive costs.
- World class test facilities provide the next best thing to
"real world" validation that designs will thrive in the toughest
environments.
- Program/project management to further reduce the strain on
your engineering time.

KeyOne™ Plus and New 020-0850 e-Locking Pull
Handle – A Winning Combination |
|
You may have seen information
on both KeyOne™ Plus and the 020-0850 e-Locking Pull Handle (see
Featured Product in this issue for more detail) in past newsletters
or on the TriMark website, but we thought you might like to
learn more about how these two innovative products work together to
provide users the maximum in security and convenience
Gone
are the days when convenience and security are mutually exclusive
terms when describing key code requirements and single key access
control. TriMark offers a single-key locking solution for the
operation of multiple locking products. Based on the proven KeyOne
design and 10 years of sales, the patented KeyOne Plus approach
features a modular lock cylinder design that allows for a single key
system that can be easily installed as the last step by the final
stage manufacturer. With the KeyOne Plus locking solution, you're
getting an automotive-style lock with a larger body diameter for
enhanced security, a high quality shutter system and perimeter
waterproof seal - reducing the infiltration of dirt and water.
Available on most TriMark entrance door handles and
baggage/compartment locks, the lock cylinder and keys are available
in a wide variety of codes allowing the customers' flexibility in
keying a unit alike and keyed different from unit to unit without
giving up overall security. The keys are available in reversible
profiles which offers ease of operation, customer convenience and
satisfaction. This system also allows for certain products or locks
such as a deadbolt lock to be keyed different for an added level of
security or restricted access. Master keyed versions are also
available, providing dealers, fleet owners, and service technician's
controlled access providing further convenience and accessibility.
Additional options allow for the ability to custom match existing
customer codes or select a new key code that would be unique to your
industry and application.
This system addresses another
challenge for OEM's, the logistics and line sequencing for the keyed
random key codes across their various models and options mix. This
program is titled "One Key – One Vehicle" and is supported with
KeyOne Plus by providing the OEM the opportunity to line sequence
the key code requirements without having to order key cylinders or
hardware kits keyed alike in advance of build requirements. The use
of the modular KeyOne Plus locking solution can be extended to
include ignition locks, fuel caps and other points of access that
would benefit from sharing lock cylinders and key code coordination.
If security is your main objective, TriMark will soon
offer its new SecureOne locking system. This lockcylinder is based
on a European style automotive internal key side-milling profile
that will provide the highest level of security ever available in
our KeyOne Plus locking system. It features increased number of
available key codes with a premium style key that is very difficult
to pick or duplicate. Also available will be an industry leading
premium key fob that will be appropriate for the industry's most
prestigious vehicles. The machined key will flip out of a stylish
key holder and fold in to store.
Because the
handles/latches, locks and keys are supplied separately, you can
order exactly what you want and need, with corresponding volumes
that suit your specific requirements, promoting product value
through increased efficiency, economies of scale, reduction of
inventory and purchased part numbers.
An additional benefit
is the ability to service, replace or upgrade the lock cylinder at
any time offering OEM's, dealers, service technician's and end users
the option to adjust the level of security and convenience or
replace in the event of lost keys or lock cylinder failure.

COMMANDoor Plus Debuts
at Recent AUSA Winter Symposium and
Exhibition |
|
TriMark, a company quickly becoming
known for providing innovative access solutions to the Armored
Vehicle market, recently featured several new products at the
Association of the United States Army's 2010 Winter Symposium and
Exposition (AUSA) held in February, 2010 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Exactly
one year from the initial debut of the COMMANDoor,
TriMark took this opportunity to introduce its
COMMANDoor Plus concept which was featured in a complete and
functioning armored door display. The 100-4500 COMMANDoor
Plus is a complete power assist module that can simply and safely
open and close the heaviest of armored vehicle doors with one
intuitive motion and can be custom engineered to fit virtually any
vehicle. The inside control COMMAND Handle's unique 2-axis
electromechanical design allows for simple and intuitive hand
motions by the soldier to activate the open and close action of the
door. Other product details include:
- Designed to withstand the rigors of battle and rugged off-road
abuse, the system easily operates heavy armored doors by a 5th
percentile female soldier, but stands up to the adrenalin-driven
strength of a 95th percentile male soldier.
- Lower current demands reducing on-board electrical draw and
battery requirements
- The centerpiece of the COMMANDoor Plus functionality is
the COMMAND Handle. By designing a system in which a single
control handle's motion coincides with the desired direction of
door travel, TriMark has provided the first true intuitive
Motion Control system for the war fighter's ingress and egress
from heavily armored vehicles.
- Soldier can actuate combat locks, FMVSS 206 compliant primary
door latch and open and close powered doors and ramps with a
single inside release from both the interior and exterior or
remote actuation via a switch that can be dash mounted or door
mounted
- Integrated safety features assure users and first responder's
safe and reliable use.
- Configurable to work with electric, pneumatic or
electro-hydraulic actuators
System
kits are available and include TriGuard line of heavy duty
latches, handles and door modules that are specifically developed
for heavy duty armored vehicle applications to provide a
comprehensive access solution.
